Overview

The client is an American corporation operating a chain of retail gas stations, primarily located in proximity to Walmart stores. This Fortune 500 company's locations vary from small kiosk locations to larger walk-in convenience stores. Larger locations offer top food and beverage brands, with a wide choice of coffee, tea, fountain drinks, ICEEs, fresh food and beer, as well as cigarettes. Another variety of the client's locations feature large localities that measure around 1,200+ square feet and offer a larger array of products and more fueling lanes.

The Problem

The client wanted to develop a store-level budgeting application with features for user/profile management, general and administrative (G&A) management, capital expenditure management, and profit and loss (P&L) reporting. Additionally, the client wanted to have a complete workflow for all the mentioned features. This workflow would include various levels of specified approvers to review the documents before officially approving them.

The Solution

Chetu, a certified software development company with vast experience developing and integrating custom software, assisted the client and turned their idea for the app into a high-quality functioning software. Chetu utilized .NET framework in combination with MS SQL Server 2008 R2 to create a store-level budgeting application that:

  • Has defined roles in the system to manage different users and sets up department hierarchy with capabilities to assign access to reports to a particular department.
  • Satisfies the requirement for the application to have a G&A management module by providing an online template to upload and view expense details, as well as possessing the functionality for users to manually add data or upload a predefined excel sheet, which then goes to the planning department where multiple approvers can review/approve G&A budgets at various levels.
  • Satisfies the need for a capital expenditure management module where any user can create a project and submit it to accounting users and assigned supervisors for review/approval.
  • Provides a module for P&L reporting through the use and upload of a P&L template that contains a list of expenditure line items with information from each store for every month.
