SASAdoctor is a company dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable, and convenient healthcare in Kenya. Using a combination of virtual and in-person support, SASAdoctor offers virtual consultations, emergency services, pharmaceutical services, and more to its client pool of approximately 160,000 users.
When co-founders Arif Amlani and Francis Osiemo began SASAdoctor back in 2017, they knew a digital route would be essential to their mission. From its conception, SASAdoctor partnered with Chetu to develop a telemedicine application that would help establish their company and bring affordable healthcare to as many people as possible.
After working with us for eight years, Osiemo remarked, “Chetu is a good company to work with, and they know what they’re doing. It takes an organized company to be able to deliver [their solutions].”
SASAdoctor requested a hybrid mobile application compatible with Android and iOS that would allow patients and providers to book, manage, and conduct appointments. Implementing a video conference feature would allow the application to host virtual appointments.
In the design process, we constructed application architecture, determining the relationships between the mobile application, reactive core, and web application. We also designed a flow diagram to direct functionality between user inputs and pages. Finally, after building the application in React-Native for Android and iOS, we tested the functionality of four primary use cases to ensure success, designing each possible screen and staging the application on Android and iOS devices.
For the first use case, registering a new user, the application accepts username, email, and password, validates the required input, calls API for registration, opens the home screen, and enables logout. The same steps are followed for the second use case, logging in. For the third use case, registering family members, the application accepts the location and details of each family member and calls API to conduct registration. Finally, in the last use case, seeing the doctor, the application allows appointment booking and payment.
The final application allows patients to register themselves and family members for consultations, book appointments, access medical records, and use SASAWallet, subscription, and insurance features. It also enables video conferencing for virtual appointments.
Chetu’s telehealth application has helped SASAdoctor approach their goal of being the lowest-cost provider with the most benefits. Because of the flexibility and accessibility of a digital application, SASAdoctor has been able to deliver consultations all over the country.
“We’ve been able to reach more people digitally than we would have if we were just one physical clinic in one city or one town. So, of course, digital has allowed us to do a lot more…We deliver all over the country because of the digital,” explained Amlani.
With Chetu’s ongoing development support, the application has continued to evolve, enabling SASAdoctor to provide 24/7 access to high-quality, affordable medical care, from medical assessments and treatment plans to prescriptions, diagnostic requests, and personal medical records.
