A weather company chose Chetu to modernize its web and mobile tide prediction application, enhancing user experience and promoting application futurity.

Project solution: Rewrote application developed in Cordova in Flutter, modernizing underlying software for optimized app store and mobile device compatibility.
The client needed a web and mobile application to predict tidal fluctuation for US coastlines. For over twenty-five years, the weather company has served a wide range of users seeking knowledge regarding coastal-related activities. The application provides essential information on tidal heights and times, sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset times, and moon phases for over 2,500 precise locations across coasts. Users finalize their desired location by selecting a region, area, zone, site, and start and end date for their location of interest.
Recently, however, the application became incompatible with Google Play Store and iOS requirements. Wanting to ensure usability for their customers, the company sought out a software development company to modernize the application.
Unable to keep up with evolving app store and AdMob requirements, the previous version of the tide prediction application was causing lost revenue. The app also had issues with the user interface, as bugs in the underlying code led to glitches such as empty spots on the screen. It was important to the company to provide a well-functioning app, as up to two-thirds of all predictions its customer base made were performed using the app.
Our client requested a third revision of the app, which included modernization of the underlying software and minor tinkering to optimize the layout and user interface. With previous revisions developed on Cordova, Chetu would completely rewrite the mobile application in Flutter, incorporating bug fixes, updates, and other enhancements to provide the best user experience.
Using Flutter framework and dart language with MVC architecture and GetX for state management, Chetu rewrote the mobile application for compatibility with a wide range of the newest devices, as well as up-to-date Max and Windows OS systems. The modernization process leveraged modern software tools, incorporating all modern and existing privacy rules and modern AdSense and/or AdMob ad code.
The final solution included features for a home screen, location section screen, getting and saving tide details, favorite locations, privacy policy, FAQs, terms, and about sections, as well as a navigation bar. Once the user opens the app, API data fills the home screen drop down fields, and from there the user can adjust the drop-down value for region, area, zone, site, and start-end dates according to their requirements for specific tide details. Architecturally, the application communicates with the website server to retrieve the tidal information, and then displays the information on the tide result screen.
Additionally, Chetu made a valuable change to the process of date selection, changing the method from a scroll wheel to a calendar. Ultimately, by extending its multi-year usage and ensuring it would remain valuable into the future, Chetu was able to offset significant application costs for the client.
